It depends on the model. Some batteries come out with a few screws. Others are glued in under the keyboard. After the $60 diagnostic you get a written quote for your exact laptop, and nothing is ordered until you approve it.
It can be. A swollen lithium battery can catch fire if it’s punctured or keeps charging. Unplug it, stop using it, keep it off beds and couches, and bring it in. Don’t press on it or try to pull it out yourself.
From the outside you often can’t. A worn battery, a failing charger, a loose port and a bad charging circuit can all look the same. The diagnostic tests each one, so you don’t pay for a battery you didn’t need.
If the battery isn’t swollen, usually yes, as a stopgap. If it is swollen, don’t keep charging it.
